I was a little nervous at first not knowing what I was in for but when she had explained what it was all about and all the benefits my nerves had settled.

How it works.

Two minutes of questions, then 15 minutes with Lou.

  1. Answer a few quick questions.

Takes about two minutes, so Lou knows how the business is set up.

  2. Pick a time for a 15-min chat.

Phone or video. Bring your business partner if you like.

  3. You’ll know what’s worth sorting.

If it makes sense to go further, Lou books a proper meeting. If not, you’re no worse off.

Sound familiar?

If one of these is you, the chat is worth 15 minutes.

  • You’ve never talked about it.

What happens to the business if one of you can’t carry on.

  • Their half could pass to someone else.

A spouse or family who never planned to be in business with you.

  • You’d need money to buy them out.

And most businesses don’t have that sitting in the bank.

  • The bank wants its money either way.

Loans and leases don’t pause while you sort it out.

Why Lou.

Insurance should make life easier, not harder.

Lou runs The Insurance Team from Napier and works with people right across New Zealand by phone and video.

  • Not tied to one insurer.

Lou compares cover across a range of providers, including AIA, Partners Life, Fidelity Life, Asteron, nib and Southern Cross.

  • Plain English.

Ask the questions you think are silly. Lou would rather you ask.

  • Here at claim time.

If something happens, you call Lou, not a call centre.

Lou Grinstead, insurance adviser at The Insurance Team NZ, smiling at her desk

Who you’ll talk to.

Hi, I’m Lou.

Louise Grinstead Insurance adviser and owner, The Insurance Team NZ

Nosy, quick, and on the end of the phone.

Fair questions.

The ones people ask before they book.

Who will I talk to?

Lou Grinstead, who owns The Insurance Team. She runs her own business too.

Should my business partner be on the chat?

If you can, yes. It’s a conversation that works best with both of you.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes. If it makes sense to go further, you’ll book a proper meeting at another time.

Do I have to be in Hawke’s Bay?

No. Lou works with people right across New Zealand by phone and video.

Do we need a shareholders' agreement first?

No. Lou can talk you through how cover and your agreement work together, and point you to a lawyer for the legal side.

What happens after the chat?

If it makes sense to keep going, Lou books a longer meeting to look at the business properly. If not, that’s fine too.

How does Lou get paid?

If you take out a policy Lou recommends, the insurer pays The Insurance Team a commission. The premium is separate, and Lou will explain how it all works before you decide anything.

The full detail, including when a fee can apply, is in our disclosure.
